First Baptist Church of Enfield - Our Mission

At First Baptist church we seek primarily to make disciples for Christ. Because we believe that it is the will of God that each disciple becomes like Christ, our foremost purpose is to help others achieve that goal. In doing this we place much emphasis on Bible based teaching and preaching which we believe are the basis for true, the genuine spiritual growth and development of the believer.

Scripture

We teach that the Bible is the inspired word of God; that is an inerrant, complete and closed canon, and that it represents God’s true and final revelation; we teach that God spoke His inspired word to human authors, and that same was transmitted through the Holy Spirit; we teach that whereas there may be several true applications to a given passage of Scripture, there is one and only one true interpretation of any given Scripture, and that can be derived only through the guidance and leading of the Holy Spirit.

We teach that it is the binding duty and responsibility of believers to approach the interpretation of Scripture under the Holy Spirit’s anointing, taking into account the true intent of the said Scripture, and realizing that God’s word final and not subject to private or personal interpretation, and that God holds guilty those who add to or take away from His word (II Tim 3:16-17; II Pet 1:19-21; Rev 22:19-21).

God the Father

We teach that God the Father is the first Person of the Trinity; that He is the sovereign Lord and Creator of all things; that He is absolute in His omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence; that His Spiritual fatherhood extends only to believers (Gen 1:1-31; Ps 103:19; Rom 8:14, 11:36; II Cor 6:18).

God the Son

We teach that Jesus Christ is God the Son; that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin; true God and true man, without sin, and eternally begotten by the Father. We believe that He is the one and only way to the Father, and that without Him no one goes to the Father (Jn 14:6). We teach that Jesus Christ is the third Person of the holy Trinity which eternally exists in three Persons, ie. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, all co-equal in their essence, nature and attributes (Jn 3:16).

God the Holy Spirit

We teach that the Holy Spirit is not a thing, but a divine Person, the second Person of the Trinity, equal in attributes and essence to God the Father and God the Son; that He was the active Agent in the incarnation as well as in the redemptive work of salvation (Mt 1:20; Lk 1:35);
We believe that from the moment of salvation He indwells every believer as well as sanctifies, instructs and empowers believers for the work of the ministry; that He seals our salvation unto the day of redemption (Rom 8:9-11; I Cor 12:7-11; II Cor 3:6; Eph 1:13).

We believe that His work extends to abiding with the believer as well as teaching and reminding the believer (Jn 14:16, 26; 15:26-27); administering spiritual gifts to the believer and baptizing believers into the body of Christ (I Cor 12:13), convicting the world of sin (Jn 16:8), and interceding on the believer’s behalf (Rom 8:26-27).

Salvation

We teach that salvation comes from God through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, and that salvation is not accomplished through any human works (Jn 1:12; Eph 1:4-7; 2:8-10; I Pet 1:18-19).
